Our connections to the heart of Africa

Welcome to Cameroon

Cameroon lies at the heart of Africa and has a population of around 30 million people. The country is characterised by a very young population, with a large proportion of people under the age of 25. As a former German colony, historical, cultural and institutional ties with Germany persist to this day, remaining tangible in education, public administration and civil society engagement. Many young people in Cameroon show a strong interest in actively shaping their future and taking on responsibility.

pecunia & fortuna does not yet have its own projects on the ground. However, we are in close contact with the locally active aid organisation, the German association HAMAMI – Schenk ein Lächeln e. V. In order to explore prospects for future educational projects, we place particular emphasis on sustainable structures, local roots and a collaborative partnership at eye level.

HAMAMI – Schenk ein Lächeln e.V.

Hamami is a German-Cameroonian non-profit association whose name means “Give a Smile” in the local Gbaya language. The association was founded with the aim of providing medical aid directly on the ground, particularly in places where people have no access to basic care. From this medical engagement, Hamami has continuously evolved. Today the association pursues a holistic approach that brings together education, self-sufficiency and social development.

Since 2021, Hamami has been active in the field of education through the ZUTUA project, and has additionally committed to building its own agricultural structures. The goal is to strengthen the local population — particularly in Meiganga — in the long term and to create opportunities. With the acquisition of its own land and the vision of bringing together educational, agricultural and cultural offerings there in the future, Hamami is growing into an organisation that thinks and implements sustainable development in a truly holistic way.
