I was particularly struck by the contrast between modern and traditional China.

My time in China was a very special experience for me. At first, a lot of things felt unfamiliar: the language, the food, the big cities and even everyday life. But that’s exactly what made the experience so exciting, because even simple things sometimes turned into little adventures for me.
I was particularly struck by the contrast between modern and traditional China. On the one hand, you see huge skyscrapers, modern technology and large shopping centres. On the other hand, there are temples, traditional buildings and many cultural customs that you don’t really come across in Germany.
I also have very fond memories of the people. Communicating was sometimes difficult, but with a translation app, gestures and a smile, it usually worked out. And it was often precisely those moments when words alone weren’t enough that led to the funniest and most wonderful situations.
All in all, I tried out lots of new things in China and learnt a great deal about a different culture. I’d love to have that experience again in a heartbeat, because it was exciting, varied and truly special.
